About the Conference

The International Conference on Electrospinning: From Design and Processing to Advanced Nanomaterials and Applications which is the final scientific event of the Electrospinning COST Action MP1206 see more here will take place on the 19th – 21st April 2017 (COST SESSION and MC FINAL MEETING: 20th, 21st) at the New Campus of the University of Cyprus located in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Conference Topics include but not limited to:

Processing design and development

Polymer, ceramic, metal and composite nano/microfibers

Green materials and sustainability

Theory and simulation related to the process

Theory and simulation related to materials’ properties

Materials’ properties

Applications of electrospin nano/microfibers including filtration and water remediation processes, biomedical applications, optoelectronics, food packaging, smart wearables and textiles, energy harvesting and storage, catalysis, sensor and actuators etc.

Safety, health and environmental issues

The conference and Final MC Meeting of the MP1206 COST Action will take place at the new University campus (1 Panepistimiou Avenue. 2109 Aglantzia, Nicosia. P.O. Box 20537, 1678 Nicosia, Cyprus) located on the outskirts of east Nicosia, between Aglantzia and Athalassa. The new Facilities will eventually host all faculties, the departments, and teaching activities of the University. By its completion, the Campus will be able to accommodate up to 10,000 students.

Cyprus is served by two International airports:

The Larnaca International Airport, which is located about 50 km from Nicosia.

The Paphos International Airport, which is located about 145 km from Nicosia.

Kapnos Airport coaches (35 minutes approximately) connect Larnaca International airport to Nicosia (approx. 35 min.) and Paphos International Airport to Nicosia (approx. 105 min.).

The New Campus of the University of Cyprus can be reached by public transportation from Solomos Square (Nicosia City Center) (Bus No. 259 and 150) or by taxi.


There are many hotels and hotel apartments in Nicosia. All participants are advised to make their own accommodation arrangements.

Post-conference Excursion    

Post-Conference Tour – 22nd April 2017

Mountain villages on Troodos Mountains: Kakopetria, Troodos, Omodos



Visiting points:

Drive from Nicosia to Kakopetria village

Free time for a coffee, walking tour in the picturesque village

Visit the Saint Nikolas of the roof church, one of the UNESCO painting churches of the island.

Continue the trip to Troodos mountains

Stop on the highest point of the island, 1952 meters

Last visit, the picturesque wine village of Omodos:

Lunch in a traditional local tavern

Visit the Saint Cross monastery

Wine tasting in a local cellar/visit the wine medieval press

Free time to wander around in the village

Return back to Nicosia in the afternoon

Price per person: from 40-55 Euros depending on number of persons.

The price includes modern mini bus or bus for the above described tour,English speaking licensed CTO guide, all entrance fees involved in the program, a traditional meat meze lunch including a variety of local dishes, dessert, water and one local drink. The tour is organized by a professional travelling agency.

Everyone interested in participating at the post-conference tour (conference and non-conference participants (i.e. accompanying persons) MUST fill in the provided form below and send it to electrospin@ucy.ac.cy by April 1st. The tour is organized by a professional tourist agency.


 This tour will ONLY take place if 25 persons minimum are interested. Payment for this tour must be made at the information desk during the conference (only cash payment).
